DESCRIPTION: Elgin, Model 600 marine chronometer, fusee-drive with spring detent escapement and 56-hour power reserve winding indicator, original gimbaled brass tub within brass-mounted and banded inner mahogany box with Elgin signature plate to front, Elgin signature plate within and corking instruction plate within, outer mahogany box with Elgin signature plate, leather strap, silvered dial of approximately 4 inch diameter, KWKS, fully capped spring detent escapement, 14J, Guillaume balance with helical Elginium hairspring, mvt marked "U.S. Navy, Bu. Ships," mvt and dial marked with 1943 date, striped pattern nickel damascene, s#124 with matching serial number to dial. An excellent example throughout and with fairly low serial number. Comes with a copy of instructions and timing certificate for a unit of different serial number.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good winding indicator function, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, small spot to plate surface below s#, one fine scratch at perimeter of main plate; nearly mint dial with small surface spot above upper left of seconds-register; mint hands; brass tub and gimbals nearly mint with some fine scratches and few mild abrasions, good beveled glass crystal; inner box in fine-plus cosmetic condition overall, some contact impressions to upper lid and to right side, some scattered scratches and fine scratches, brass banding with portions of lacquer loss and tarnish, signature plates and corking plate excellent; outer box in nearly mint cosmetic condition overall, few fine scratches, leather straps excellent with only some fatique at areas turning over box lid and at position of buckling.
